Barcelona wins the women’s league for the fifth time in a row

Barcelona mathematically won the women’s league for the fifth consecutive time this Saturday after defeating Granada 4-1 on the 26th matchday of the Liga F.

The double from Swedish Fridolina Rölfo (2, 75), and goals from English Lucy Bronze (11) and Danish Caroline Graham Hansen (38) gave Barça the ninth championship in its history with four rounds to spare.

Barça, which easily dominated a Granada team for which Laura Pérez scored (45+2), has won all its matches except for the draw it conceded against Levante on the 14th matchday.

The Blaugrana team now leads the championship with 76 points, 15 more than second-placed Real Madrid, which has five matches left but has lost the goal difference tiebreaker to the Catalans.

Barça has already won the Supercup and will face Real Sociedad in the final of the Queen’s Cup on May 18 before taking on Lyon, whom they have never beaten, in the final of the Women’s Champions League on May 25 in Bilbao.

Last season, the Barça women’s team triumphed in Europe, won the Liga F, and took the Spanish Supercup, but was disqualified from the Queen’s Cup for fielding an ineligible player.

In 2021, the Blaugrana achieved the treble but were eliminated by Atlético Madrid in the semifinals of the Spanish Supercup.

Barcelona’s coach, Jonatan Giráldez, after three years at the helm of the Blaugrana, will leave at the end of the season to take charge of the Washington Spirit in the United States.
