Alexia Putellas wins the Women’s Ballon d’Or for the second consecutive year

Alexia Putellas received the second Golden Ball of her career at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. The midfielder for Fútbol Club Barcelona and the Spanish national team was one of the main candidates for the prestigious award that France Football awards each year and, finally, she retained the crown that elevates her as the best soccer player on the planet.

In the 2021 edition, the Women’s Ballon d’Or had an owner. Alexia Putellas was crowned for the first time as the best in the world. In this 2022, the pools remained open. In particular, for the triumph of Olympique de Lyon in the Women’s Champions League and for England’s victory in the European Championship.

The Women’s Ballon d’Or as such began to be awarded in 2018. Ada Hegerberg was the first to lift it, in an edition in which the Norwegian shared the limelight with Luka Modric and Kylian Mbappé. In 2019, it was the American Megan Rapinoe who took home the trophy. In 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the award was void.
In 2021, Alexia Putellas became the first Spanish footballer to win the Women’s Ballon d’Or. And with this new recognition in 2022, the player from Mollet del Vallès becomes the first player to repeat as a winner at the France Football gala.
